Because sensitive military know-how could eventually reach North Korea, new Delhi: India has urged Japan to exercise caution over transferring advanced defence technology to Pakistan.
New Delhi also flagged the possible transfer of Japanese technology to Islamabad While the two sides agreed to strengthen defence cooperation. Singh and Koizumi issued their first joint statement devoted entirely to defence cooperation, with maritime security forming a major part of the talks. Japan’s Ministry of Defense is scheduled to host the second IPLN tabletop exercise in September as part of efforts to develop the network further.
The issue came up during Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi’s visit to India on Thursday (August 20), where he held talks with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Earlier reporting noted: Koizumi arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday before travelling to New Delhi for talks with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Singh also welcomed Japan’s recent changes to its defence export policy. His visit has also brought attention to the UNICORN naval antenna project, an India–Japan initiative intended to improve the radar-signature management and electronic integration of Indian Navy warships. In Mumbai, he visited the Western Naval Command, laid a wreath at the Gaurav Stambh and received briefings on Indian Navy operations and capabilities. Their talks are also expected to examine new areas of collaboration under India’s Make in India policy.
He said closer technological cooperation between the two countries could contribute to international peace and regional stability.
