The result followed Australia’s nine-wicket defeat in the opening Test at Darwin and gave them a much-needed win in the World Test Championship campaign. Australia drew the Test series 1-1 with Bangladesh after securing an innings and 51-run victory in the second Test at Mackay.
Australia built a first-innings lead after scoring 210 in 52.3 overs, with Cameron Green emerging as their leading batter. Green scored 67 from 105 balls, hitting 10 fours, to anchor the Australian innings after the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals. Steven Smith contributed 42 from 74 balls, including six fours, while Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten on 32 from 62 deliveries with four fours and a six. Travis Head also made a quick 22 from 27 balls.
Mitchell Starc continued his excellent match with four wickets, while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed three wickets apiece. Bangladesh’s second innings lasted 38.3 overs as they were dismissed for 95. Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 31, while Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 29. Cummins conceded only 10 runs from his 10 overs, while Lyon finished with 3/25. The wickets kept falling at regular intervals, with Bangladesh slipping from 51/4 to 95 all out. Australia’s bowling attack completed the job to secure an innings-and-51-run victory.
