Authorities in Kashmir have launched a manhunt following the escape of two undertrial prisoners from Central Jail Srinagar. The inmates scaled the perimeter wall of the facility, prompting officials to issue a high alert across the region. The incident has heightened security concerns and mobilized law enforcement to locate the escapees swiftly.
Following the escape, security forces and police intensified operations across the Valley. Local police stations, major checkpoints or nakas, and transit hubs in and around Srinagar have been placed under strict surveillance. Authorities have also tightened security along key exit routes from Kashmir. Special teams have also been deployed to coordinate with police in Anantnag district in connection with the search for Mukhtar Ahmed Gujar.
Farman Khan was admitted to the jail on June 23, 2026, in connection with FIR No. 19/2026, registered under Sections 137(2) and 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 3/4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
