A month after its protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar spread to several parts of the country, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a fresh youth protest march in the national capital on September 5, accusing the Centre of failing to honour commitments made when the students’ movement was called off on July 25.
The march will begin at India Gate and conclude at the New Delhi Police Headquarters. Therefore, a peaceful protest march is called for which will start at the India Gate all the way till the new Delhi Police Headquarters. “The National Working Committee expressed serious doubts over whether the Government of India intends to honour its commitments made to the young generation on July 25. The protest will be led by the families of the NEET students who died by suicide and victims of July 20 police brutality,” he said. On July 20, a march towards Parliament led by the outfit turned chaotic and violent after police action against protesters, with scores of people reported injured.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the protest would remain peaceful, but accused the government of betraying the younger generation.
Dispute reaches Supreme Court
“The families who lost their children will walk at the front. The dispute later reached the Supreme Court. Victims of police brutality will walk beside them.
During a hearing on August 18, the CJP accused the Centre of resisting efforts to facilitate the quashing of FIRs against students and protesters. In its latest statement, the CJP said families who had lost their children would lead the September 5 march, while victims of the July 20 police action would also take part.
Behind them will walk a generation demanding only one thing from its government: Keep your word,” the CJP said.
