Several people are feared to be trapped after a building collapsed in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan this afternoon. One person has been rescued so far, while a search is underway for more survivors under the rubble.
An eyewitness said at least 50 students were believed to be inside the building when the collapse occurred.
Visuals showed a large crowd gathered where the building stood, with fire brigade personnel looking for survivors in the debris. The building served as a paying guest accommodation. Disturbing visuals shared online showed a person wedged under a concrete slab as several struggle to lift it. The locality has a high population of students with several colleges located in the nearby areas.
The collapse occurred around 1:30 pm. An eyewitness said at least 50 students were believed to be inside the building when the collapse occurred. At least 12 fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to help in the rescue work.
Most were at ‘home’ since it’s a Sunday, she said.
