Saudi Arabia’s National Early Warning Platform issued temporary emergency alerts for the cities of Mecca, Jeddah, Yanbu, Tabuk, and Taif. These alerts were prompted by concerns over an impending danger, which was later confirmed to have passed. The issuance of these precautionary alerts comes in response to escalating security issues following several interceptions of missiles and drones in the region.
Just moments after the initial alert broadcasts, the Saudi Arabia Civil Defense Directorate confirmed that there was no danger in Mecca, Jeddah, Yanbu, Tabuk, and Taif. The national early warning platform asked all recipients of the alerts to take safety precautions immediately. Shelter inside : Residents should seek shelter immediately inside buildings, keeping clear of all windows, glass doors, balconies, and open rooftops. Motorists’ procedure : Motorists were advised to find a safe spot away from bridges, underpasses, and high-rise buildings. Restrictions on media : It was advised to refrain from taking pictures and congregating in any uncovered areas. The brief domestic alerts coincide with heightened friction following recent cross-border attacks and military escalations. Amid the evolving conflict, Houthi military advisers have issued direct warnings to international actors, stating that regional alignments and efforts to counter Houthi movements near critical maritime chokepoints like the Bab el-Mandeb Strait could draw retaliatory actions against foreign interests in the area.
Residents were encouraged to report any emergencies in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and Eastern Province by calling 911 or 998 in other areas.
