Following in the footsteps of the Hong Kong Sixes, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to introduce a six-a-side tournament. With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) continuing to grow in popularity, the PCB aims to expand its reach, discover new talent, and provide fans with a more entertaining and engaging brand of cricket. After pulling out of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2026 due to the ongoing rivalry with India, Pakistan are now set to launch their own league.

Speaking on a PSL podcast, the league’s chief executive, Salman Naseer , revealed that the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB is working on a new six-a-side competition, which will be called PSL Sixes. “Nothing is finalised, but there are some exciting plans, and one of them is a sixes tournament, called the PSL Sixes, which will be in the off-season.

We will look into the prospect of launching this tournament, and it will be very exciting, entertaining and engaging for the fans when it becomes a recurring feature,” he said.

Pakistan won the last edition of the tournament held in Sri Lanka last year, but this time the board has informed the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association that they are not permitted to travel and play in India. Unlike the Hong Kong Sixes, which features teams from different countries around the world, this tournament is expected to follow a PSL-style franchise model, with teams representing various cities and regions rather than nations. As for the Hong Kong Sixes, Pakistan are the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Meanwhile, the PCBhas declined a request from the over-50s team to participate in the International Masters Cricket World Cup being hosted by India in January next year.

Since the competition began in 1992, they have won the title six times and are also the defending champions. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 1.
