Former India batter Krishnamachari Srikkanth has made a huge remark after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced the appointment of Englishman Gareth Batty as one of their assistant coaches amid the recent overhaul of the coaching staff. Batty, who played nine Tests and 10 ODIs for England, is one of the two assistant coaches under head coach Zaheer Khan , the other being former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel .
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said he has no clue who Batty is after CSK made his appointment official.
“I am not sure about Gareth Batty. I’ve no clue who he is. On Morkel’s appointment, however, Srikkanth admitted that CSK may have made the right choice, given the former South Africa all-rounder’s association with the franchise during its glory years in the IPL. “Albie Morkel is a good choice as he has played for them and been part of championship teams. He knows the CSK culture and was a committed cricketer. From what I know, he is the perfect team man,” he added. CSK also appointed former pacer Mohit Sharma as their bowling coach. “But it’s good that CSK have done a complete overhaul and have a fresh engine with new oil. A new look is important for CSK, and they have to move on. Changes had to be made. Though I am not sure about Batty, CSK must have done their homework to appoint him. The overhaul comes following the departure of Stephen Fleming and several members of his backroom staff, including Michael Hussey , Eric Simons , Rajiv Kumar, Tommy Simsek and Greg King, who played key roles in the franchise’s success over the years. Meanwhile, James Foster will continue as fielding coach, while Sridharan Sriram retains his role as assistant coach.
Meanwhile, Batty scored more than 9,000 runs and claimed over 900 wickets in a distinguished domestic career.
Maybe he is brilliant, but I am not sure,” said Srikkanth. Speaking about CSK’s coaching overhaul during the off-season, Srikkanth said the changes could prove beneficial for the franchise. So he must be a good coach,” said Srikkanth.
