They hold a slender one-run lead with only four wickets down, and they have a real chance to take the game by the scruff of the neck. With conditions expected to be still good for batting, their priority will be to see off the first hour or so, and then look to stretch their advantage. Should be a cracker of a first session. Cheers! Australia’s middle order comes good – The visitors did get a rollicking start with the bat thanks to Travis Head but were pegged back with a couple of quick blows. However, Josh Inglis and Alex Carey have completely owned the final session, with Inglis racking up runs at a brisk pace. Not a single breakthrough for South Africa in that final session, and they are now in danger of conceding a sizeable first-innings lead. Too full and outside off, Carey reaches out and toe ends it to the off side.

A chance to take control -If you look back at how the opening session went on Day 1, when Australia went wicketless, not many would have seen them in this position at the start of Day 3. On to the moving day – Day 3, probably the most important day in Test cricket, as we generally get a good gauge of who’s in front by the end of the day. For now, Aussies have the advantage as they lead by 1 run and have 6 wickets in hand, but things can change quickly if South Africa make early inroads on Day 3. Do join us on Thursday, October 29, as Day 3 is scheduled to begin at 8.30 am GMT, but you can also tune in sooner for the build-up. Then, in the second session, Matt Renshaw and Cameron Green stitched together 126 runs before, again, a double blow got the Aussies into a precarious position just before Tea. The duo have stitched together an unbeaten 145-run stand, with Inglis already up to 85. Carey also notched up a half-century really late in the day and they will look to press home the advantage early on Day 3. 3.58 pm GMT – STUMPS, DAY 2 – Dominance in the final session makes it Australia’s day again. The Aussies were brilliant with the ball in the evening session on Day 1, and now they were brilliant with the bat in the evening session on Day 2.
