India’s women’s cricket team successfully defended its Asian Games gold medal after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Tuesday.
The triumph also gave India their first gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games. India had defeated Sri Lanka in the gold-medal match at the 2023 Hangzhou Games as well. Mandhana brought up her 37th T20I half-century and also completed 11,000 international runs during her knock. She eventually scored 79 runs, hitting five fours and seven sixes. India ended their 20 overs at 216/3, registering the highest women’s cricket total at the Asian Games across four editions. The Asian Games triumph extends India’s unbeaten run since their group-stage exit from the 2026 T20 World Cup in June. The team subsequently recorded a Test victory over England at Lord’s and then won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, their eighth title in the tournament. India also defeated Bangladesh by 114 runs in the Asian Games semifinal to reach the final.
