A 30-year-old dance teacher allegedly jumped into the Yamuna in southeast Delhi after being unable to pay the EMIs on an iPhone, the police said today.

In Delhi, a man identified as Deepak Kumar, was seen struggling in the water, following which a rescue boat was launched towards him. The dance teacher told the police that his income had declined over the past few months, making it difficult for him to pay the monthly installments or EMIs on his iPhone, news agency PTI reported. The Delhi incident happened on Friday, the same day three of a family in Maharashtra died when they fell off a cliff during a standoff over what was claimed to be an argument on paying EMIs on an iPhone.
More developments linked to other reasons have surfaced in the Maharashtra case though. The rescuers grabbed him and took him out of the muddy water. Some policemen on patrol saw what he did and alerted the rescue team. Kumar lives in southeast Delhi’s Okhla and works as a dance teacher. He also does gardening on the side. The police counselled Kumar and called his wife and brother-in-law to the police station before sending him home.
Before that, Kumar had jumped off a ghat in south Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj at 8.30 pm.
He lives with his wife and two children, the police said. It had led to stress and eventually drove him to attempt to die by suicide, the police said.
