Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has spoken out for the first time after he was attacked with a kirpan by a Nihang at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra.
Investigation Underway Following Attack on Punjab Leader
Badal, who sustained an injury to his right hand during the attack, remains resolute in his commitment to maintaining peace in Punjab. He emphasized that there are elements seeking to disrupt this peace and insisted that such efforts must not prevail.
“Their mission is to take control of the situation in Punjab and disturb the peace, which, as President of Akali Dal, I will never allow… Both times they attacked me in the holiest places… I have never been scared, nor am I afraid now. Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to the brotherhood and pride of Punjab. Shiromani Akali Dal can make any sacrifice, but Punjab’s progress and communal and religious harmony are our top priority,” Badal stated after being discharged from the hospital.
Following the incident, which occurred at a significant Sikh religious site, Badal was hospitalized but is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities in Maharashtra have taken the attacker into custody and initiated a comprehensive investigation to uncover the motives behind the assault.
Concerns have been raised due to Badal’s prominent political position and the nature of the attack, which has prompted an inquiry into whether the assailant acted independently or as part of a broader scheme.
