The Delhi High Court is set to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) concerning the collapse of a five-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, which has claimed seven lives. Rescue Operations Continue After Building Collapse in Satya Niketan
Rescue teams have been working tirelessly for a second day following the collapse of a five-storey building in Satya Niketan. As of Monday, September 7, 2026, a total of 12 individuals have been rescued from the debris, while the death toll has tragically risen to seven, according to updates from Delhi Police.
On Monday morning, one person was pulled from the rubble, but another casualty was confirmed, bringing the total fatalities to seven. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police have been involved in ongoing efforts to locate any remaining survivors.
In response to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has mandated a magisterial inquiry into the building’s collapse. Additionally, the Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the building’s owner as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disaster. Authorities are particularly scrutinizing the repair work that was reportedly underway at the time of the collapse.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has responded by ordering the immediate sealing of illegal structures that exceed four floors, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for the resignation of the MCD commissioner, citing negligence in enforcing safety regulations for paying guest accommodations in areas populated by students. They have also urged for an impartial investigation into the collapse and safety audits of all PG buildings across the city.
