In recent incidents, two commercial vessels carrying a total of 22 Indian nationals were hijacked in separate locations off the coasts of Yemen and Somalia. The first incident involved the tanker MT Sibu 1, which was attacked in the Gulf of Aden. The second incident occurred off the coast of Puntland, where the cargo vessel M/V LUTUF was seized. The circumstances surrounding these hijackings are under investigation, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of the crew members involved.
The Recruitment and Placement Service Licence agency has been asked to submit an incident report and regular updates through the e-Navik online marine casualty reporting system. The cargo made the second incident more serious. The vessel was reportedly carrying weapons bound for a Turkish military training facility in Mogadishu. Turkish authorities had also not immediately commented on the incident.
