Narayanan said on Sunday at the third National Space Day celebrations in Ahmedabad. India’s space sector has witnessed a major expansion in private participation, with around 440 startups now operating in the industry, ISRO Chairman and Department of Space Secretary Dr V.
He also underlined the need to address emerging challenges such as space debris, cyber security, data security and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. The event brought together representatives from academic and research institutions, private space companies, startups and industry. He highlighted several major milestones, including Chandrayaan-1’s discovery of water molecules on the Moon, the advanced camera technology used in Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing near the lunar south pole on August 23, 2023.
Addressing the National Space Day celebrations at The Forum Convention Centre in Ahmedabad, Shekhawat said the growth of the space economy should not be measured solely in financial terms. Private participation is creating opportunities across several areas, including satellite manufacturing, launch services, components, ground support, space applications and data analytics, according to Shekhawat.
