A fresh controversy has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir, with the BJP tearing into veteran politician Farooq Abdullah and describing the former chief minister’s controversial remarks on Kashmiris as “pro-Pakistan” and seditious.
Farooq Abdullah had said that the Indian government’s intentions towards the Kashmiris are not right, and it is due to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that their voices are being heard globally.
“Farooq Abdullah’s statement on Jammu and Kashmir deeply insults the Indian Constitution and the patriotic people of Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah, who heads the ruling National Conference (NC) party in J&K, had said that the Indian government’s intentions towards the Kashmiris are not right, and it is due to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that their voices are being heard globally. Everyone knows that thousands of people lost their lives in the valley due to cross-border terrorism.
Responding to him, the BJP’s national spokesperson RP Singh said the veteran Kashmiri politician must “look across the border” and see the plight of Kashmiris on the other side. The National Conference has become a mouthpiece for Pakistan,” she said. Condemning Abdullah’s remark as anti-India and pro-Pakistan, BJP MLA Yudhvir Sethi said it amounts to sedition.
