New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent Prime Minister Narendra Modi a warm birthday message, praising his role in strengthening the “special and privileged strategic partnership” between India and Russia.
Putin Praises Modi on His 76th Birthday
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his birthday wishes to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turned 76 on September 17. In a message shared by the Russian Embassy in India on X, Putin expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received during his recent visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit.
Putin acknowledged Modi’s deep respect among his fellow citizens and his significant role on the global stage. He stated, “It is impossible to overstate your personal contribution to strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.”
The Russian leader characterized their discussions as “substantive, frank and productive,” highlighting Modi’s “extraordinary political wisdom and foresight”. He reassured that both nations would continue to collaborate on bilateral and international issues, saying, “We will, of course, continue our constructive cooperation on pressing bilateral and international issues for the benefit of our friendly nations.”
Russia’s Economic Challenges and India’s Trade Relations
In a recent address at a business forum, a Russian official criticized Western sanctions, claiming that Russia has endured over 30,000 such measures. He condemned these economic restrictions as ‘ugly’ competitive practices that hinder fair trade.
Amidst these challenges, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has announced a Programme for Economic Cooperation aimed at enhancing trade and addressing logistical, payment, and connectivity barriers through 2030. In the financial year 2024-25, bilateral trade between India and Russia reached $68.7 billion, with Indian exports totaling $4.9 billion and imports from Russia at $63.8 billion.
