On Monday afternoon, heavy rain swept through parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region, providing a welcome break from the persistent heat and lowering temperatures across several locations. Areas such as Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurgaon are expected to experience additional scattered rain, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. However, this relief may be temporary, as forecasts indicate that hot and humid conditions are likely to return following the rainfall, according to independent weather forecaster IndiaMetSky TgQPHd.
Heavy rainfall hit parts of South Delhi and nearby areas, triggering severe traffic delays across the National Capital Region, news agency IANS reported. In a post on X, weather forecaster India Met Sky said, “Scattered heavy rains with loud lightning strikes, gusty winds upto 25km/h will occur in parts of #Ghaziabad, #EastDelhi, #Noida, #Gurgaon, #Delhi, #SouthDelhi and nearby areas during next 2 hours. The weather will remain humid and hot after the spells ends and there are probability of more such scattered events in upcoming 2 days.”
The forecast comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for several parts of the capital. Beyond Delhi, several parts of the country are also likely to see heavy rain and thunderstorms. Weather warnings have been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra and parts of the Northeast.
The weather agency has warned of heavy and moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kmph in different areas.
