New Delhi: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petitions today (August 17) seeking a court-monitored investigation into alleged theft and financial irregularities involving donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The hearing had earlier been deferred at the request of the Uttar Pradesh government.
At the previous hearing on July 27, the apex court took note of the four-member SIT constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kiran S.
Supreme Court to Oversee Investigation by State SIT
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, is set to review the investigation conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the state government. Petitioners have raised concerns regarding the thoroughness of the SIT’s inquiry and have requested that the investigation be supervised directly by the Supreme Court.
In a recent directive, the court mandated the inclusion of a forensic auditor in the SIT to ensure that the financial elements of the allegations are properly assessed. The SIT has also been instructed to provide a status report within two weeks.
The court’s upcoming session will focus on the current status of the SIT’s investigation and the specific requests made by the petitioners regarding judicial oversight.
