A devastating accident occurred late Friday night around 11:40 p.m. on National Highway-66 at Panambikkunnu, Kaipamangalam, Thrissur District of Kerala. Eight engineering students from Tamil Nadu tragically lost their lives when their speeding car collided with the rear of an illegally parked lorry. The group was returning to Kodungallur from Guruvayur at the time of the incident.
Identification of victims by police
The police investigation into the deaths is being conducted in regard to any highway safety violation or any illegal parking of vehicles near the construction site. Transfer to the hospital : Local people, police, and fire rescue workers rescued the victims from the car and transported the bodies to the Thrissur Medical College mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination. Kaipamangalam police have filed a case against the driver of the lorry who fled immediately after the collision under section 105 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Investigation into illegally parked lorry
High-speed collision : Police reported that the vehicle was moving at high speed and that the driver had missed the warning barriers and hit the rear side of the stationary truck.
There is severe negligence in terms of the placement of the freight vehicle involved in the accident, according to initial information given by the FIR.
