Mumbai Indians have added another experienced name to their cricketing structure, appointing former first class cricketer Zubin Bharucha as the franchise’s Director of Performance. The five time IPL champions have brought in Bharucha to strengthen their player development and performance systems as they prepare for the next phase of their campaign.
He later worked as the franchise’s Director of Cricket Operations and moved into its high performance structure. The franchise has also indicated that he will become part of its existing support staff and contribute to its player development framework. Bharucha was similarly involved in Parag’s development during a period when the all rounder faced considerable scrutiny. The Royals’ high performance setup worked with him on his batting and preparation, while Bharucha publicly backed his potential. Bharucha’s playing career preceded his move into cricket administration. He represented Mumbai and Surrey in first class cricket and later shifted towards coaching, scouting and performance management. He brings that combination of playing experience and long term player development work into the Mumbai Indians setup.
The 56 year old has spent much of his professional career working in high performance and player development. His association with Rajasthan Royals began in 2008, when he became the team’s Team Director. He continued in that position until 2015, before the franchise served its two year suspension. Bharucha subsequently had a brief spell with Delhi Daredevils before returning to Rajasthan Royals in 2018. Parag subsequently became an established IPL performer and was appointed Rajasthan Royals captain for IPL 2026.
Mumbai Indians said Bharucha will “work closely with the existing multi-disciplinary leadership group across all performance disciplines within the MI ecosystem.
