Addressing the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, Xi said China would work with other members of the bloc towards promoting peace in the region. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on BRICS nations to play a peacemaking role amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, saying the war does not serve the common interests of the international community.
The Chinese President said the conflict “does not serve the common interests of the international community”, and stressed the need for greater cooperation among BRICS members on issues affecting global peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared warm moments with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping as the summit began at Bharat Mandapam under India’s chairship. In visuals shared on social media, Modi was seen greeting both leaders together, holding their hands and exchanging smiles. “No member has raised any objection. It also reaffirmed the BRICS countries’ commitment to resolving international disputes peacefully through dialogue, consultation and diplomacy. On trade, the BRICS statement expressed serious concern over the increasing use of unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures, saying such steps distort trade and are inconsistent with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.
