On Friday, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda held a meeting to assess the current situation regarding H1N1 Influenza in India, with a specific emphasis on the national capital, Delhi. The meeting included participation from Delhi Health Minister D Pankaj Kumar Singh, highlighting the government’s proactive approach to managing the health crisis.
A spike in swine flu cases has been reported in Delhi amid the prevailing humid and variable weather conditions, according to a recent report. Nadda emphasised the need for continued vigilance, robust surveillance and proactive preparedness, with close monitoring of influenza trends. Health experts have advised people to remain alert to flu-like symptoms and seek medical attention where required.
The Union Health Minister reviewed the national surveillance and epidemiological situation, ILI and SARI trends, testing and laboratory surveillance, and preparedness of healthcare facilities to manage seasonal influenza cases, according to a release.
In July, he reviewed Delhi’s preparedness for dengue prevention and control and called for close coordination among the Union government, Delhi government, municipal authorities, healthcare institutions and frontline workers.
Nadda has previously stressed the importance of coordination between the Centre and state governments in dealing with seasonal and communicable diseases.
